Maria Konnikova, geboren in Russland, kam mit vier Jahren in die USA. Nach ihrem Studium der Psychologie und des kreativen Schreibens an der Harvard Universität arbeitete sie als Produzentin für eine US-Fernsehshow. Parallel zu ihrer Dissertation schreibt sie die beliebte Kolumne "Lessons from Sherlock Holmes" für die Zeitschrift Scientific American. Weitere Beiträge erschienen u.a. in der New York Times, dem Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe und Observer. Konnikova lebt in New York City.
